About BIC®

The simple BIC ballpoint pen is a legendary piece of French design exhibited at New York’s MoMA in 2001 and the Pompidou Centre in 2006. Its story began in 1944, when Marcel Bich (1914–1994) bought a factory in Clichy and started to manufacture writing instruments with his business partner Edouard Buffard (1908–1996). Marcel Bich was convinced of the potential of the ballpoint pen, and decided to adapt and improve the pen invented by Hungarian Làszlo Biro. In France in 1950, he launched his own ballpoint pen under the BIC brand.
