This novel-doc offers children aged 8 and over to discover the history of Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral, from its construction to the fire of 2019, through the story of a family of artisans who participated in its construction, and who over the following generations have always forged a special bond with this monument.
Five chapters aim to recount each of the great moments of the cathedral
- Chapter 1: 1163, the laying of the first stone. Pierre Lecoeuvre, 12 years old, is an apprentice on the construction site.
- Chapter 2: 1220, the construction site is progressing, the work is different: stained glass windows, flying buttresses, etc. Symon Lecoeuvre, Pierre's son, is a master carpenter.
- Chapter 3: 1795, the cathedral is almost in ruins, following the Revolution. Raoul Lecoeuvre, rag picker, sells old notebooks belonging to his ancestors. He is involved in a company recovering Notre-Dame stones.
- Chapter 4: 1832, Notre-Dame will be reborn. Sylvain Lecoeuvre, aspiring poet, meets his idol, Victor Hugo, who, accompanied by Prosper Mérimée, talks about the renovation of the cathedral by Viollet-le-Duc.
- Chapter 5: 2019, the fire. Vincent Lecoeuvre is a worker on the scaffolding for yet another renovation of the cathedral when the fire breaks out. He watches, amazed, at this one. He will be rehired on the reconstruction site, an opportunity for the reader to learn more about this work.
